1934 Ford Deluxe Custom Sports Roadster, All Steel Construction Created 1948-53 by Robert Roeder

A true one-off, this unique creation was built by sheet metal finisher Robert Roeder of Emmaus, PA, who started the original 5-year build of the car in 1948, starting from the 1934 Ford Deluxe Cabriolet he had owned since 1938. Following its completion in 1953, the car was exhibited sparingly during the 1950s before going into storage for the next 35 years.

In 1958 Roeder repowered his creation, replacing the 'original' flathead V8 with a 1955 Chevy 265 cubic-inch V-8 that has been topped off with an Edelbrock C355 tri-power manifold, tri-power carburetors and dual exhausts. The original Ford 3-speed top-loader manual transmission was retained, while the 4.11:1 rear from a Lincoln Zephyr made it strong and quick. At all four wheels, 1940 Mercury hydraulic brakes stop Roeder's car, aircraft-style tube shocks help it handle well and 16" Ford wheels give the car the right look. His original dual exhausts were just faithfully replaced in the spring of 2012 as the originals had deteriorated since the 1950s.

The car's fully-custom roadster body is amazingly still the Dearborn steel of a 1934 Ford roadster that was sectioned 4" and channeled 6". The front fenders and headlamps are from a 1940 Mercury, while the rears are from the same-year Ford. A custom aluminum hood was louvered for the right look and capped off with a shaved cowl, custom nose panel and grille and a completely custom rear valance with integral continental spare and exhaust outlets. Other one-off features include a 1938 Lincoln Zephyr steering wheel, a 1937 Packard Convertible Coupe windshield and a custom lift-off steel hardtop.

This car has been invited to be shown at this year's Glenmoor Gathering - this invitation will convey to the new owner.
