1949 Lincoln OEL L-72 Coupe

Description:

A rare example, this 'Baby Lincoln' 1949 Lincoln Model OEL L-72 2-door Club Coupe was based on the Mercury body. The much-rarer Lincoln Club Coupe looks like it was already customized with its factory tunneled headlamps and taillights.

Just 5748 L series coupes were built in both standard and Lido trim. These are very similar to the James Dean-style Mercurys but with much wilder looks and a considerably larger and more powerful version of the flathead V-8 engine.

This example has had a pampered life and was part of a one-family collection for many years. It sports a flawless and beautiful black finish in gorgeous condition over a matching interior with a beautiful instrument panel and other trim. All chrome and trim inside and out are likewise exquisite and has been restored to high-quality only as needed.

Powered by the 145 horsepower 336.7ci Flathead V-8, it puts power to the road through a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, a more potent package than even the previous year Continental's V-12. As such, performance was nimble with Lincoln winning two Grand National races in 1950.
